About this meeting

Our August meetup brought together a great group of builders eager to learn and connect. Members shared updates, met new faces, and settled in for an engaging discussion on empowering Africa’s next generation of entrepreneurs.

Founder Ukeme Daniel delivered an inspiring presentation on The Beta Collective and her mission to support African founders through visibility, resources, and access to capital. She walked us through her journey - from identifying major gaps in the ecosystem to building an MVP, validating assumptions, and shaping the next version of the product.

Key takeaways from her talk included:

  • Talk to real people to understand the problem deeply: Ukeme conducted 50+ in-depth stakeholder interviews to uncover the biggest barriers facing African founders: knowledge gaps, limited access to experienced operators, and lack of early-stage capital.
  • Build support systems that address multiple needs, not just one: The organization blends capital access, expertise, resource matching, and community visibility to help founders overcome structural barriers.
  • Start with clarity on who your users are and what they need: Early stages focused on mapping the product vision, storyboarding user journeys, and creating low-fidelity wireframes to refine key concepts.
  • Validate early with the simplest possible version: The team built a lightweight landing page — designed first in Figma, then translated into a simple webpage — to test messaging and collect early user signups.
  • Treat your MVP as a learning tool, not a final product: The Blitz MVP was created to validate assumptions, gather user feedback, find the first 100 users, and understand user segments before building more complex features.
  • Use feedback to identify what’s working and what needs improvement: Users valued the platform’s clarity and potential but highlighted pain points like manual backend processes, lack of personalization, and limited discovery features.
  • Iterate based on insights to deliver a smarter next version: Planned updates include advanced filters, personalized recommendations, better backend tools, and proactive alerts for deadlines and opportunities.

Ukeme’s journey showed the community what’s possible when vision, community insight, and structured testing come together — and it left members inspired to keep building.
